Most people think of the Dallas Arboretum as a daytime, bring-the-kids, look-at-the-tulips kind of place. It is that. But on Thursday nights from June through November, the 66-acre garden on the east shore of White Rock Lake turns into one of the best outdoor concert venues in the city, and most locals still sleep on it.

The Cool Thursdays Concert Series hits its 29th season in 2026, which makes it one of the longest-running live-music traditions in Dallas. The format is simple and it works: a tribute band, a lawn, a lake, a sunset, and whatever food and wine you decide to haul in yourself.

That last part is the secret. This is a bring-your-own-everything situation, which means a night of live music here can cost a fraction of what the same evening runs at a traditional venue. Played right, it is the best cheap-luxury night on the DFW calendar.

How Cool Thursdays Works

Gates open at 6pm and the music starts later in the evening, with summer concerts typically kicking off around 7:30pm. You stake out a spot on the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn, which slopes down toward White Rock Lake, and you settle in for sunset over the water while the band plays.

The lineup is built on tribute acts, and they take it seriously. Past and recurring seasons have featured tributes to Billy Joel, ABBA, Elton John, Taylor Swift and Coldplay, so you already know every word to every song before the first note. What It Costs

Concert tickets run by tier: roughly $40 for members, $45 for guests, $50 for premium seating and $30 for kids, depending on the night. Regular daytime garden admission, for reference, runs $21.95 to $25.95 for adults and $17.95 to $21.95 for kids 3 to 12, with members free and parking at $15. Arrive close to the 6pm gate time on a sold-out night, because the good lawn real estate near the water goes early.

Rideshare is a legitimate play too, especially if you are committing to the BYO wine. Garland Road traffic backs up after the show lets out, so a drop-off and pickup can be the lower-stress call for a group that wants to actually enjoy the bottles they packed.
