Grapevine is one of those places that people who do not live near DFW have on their bucket list and people who do live here somehow never get around to visiting. It sits right between Dallas and Fort Worth, it has a charming historic Main Street that actually delivers on the postcard promise and it is surrounded by wineries and outdoor activities that make a full weekend trip genuinely easy to fill. In 2026 it has only gotten better.

The city of Grapevine has leaned hard into its identity as the Christmas Capital of Texas and while the holiday season is spectacular the truth is that Grapevine has plenty going on year-round that makes it worth the drive no matter when you visit.

    Atmosphere

Grapevine sits in Tarrant County just minutes from DFW International Airport and is accessible via Highway 114 and Highway 121. From downtown Dallas you are looking at about 30 to 35 minutes. From Fort Worth it is roughly 20 to 25 minutes. The historic Main Street area is very walkable once you are there and parking along the street and in nearby city lots is free or extremely affordable. The Trinity Railway Express also has a Grapevine station which makes it possible to get there without a car if you are starting from downtown Dallas or Fort Worth.

    What to Do in Grapevine

Historic Downtown Grapevine on Main Street is the core of any visit. The strip has boutique shops wine tasting rooms local restaurants and wine bars that create a really nice vibe especially on weekends when live music spills out of venues. Grapevine has more than 50 vineyards and wineries in the surrounding area making it the only urban wine trail in Texas. Most tasting rooms on Main Street charge around $15 to $25 for a flight of local wines. Grapevine Lake is nearby and offers kayaking fishing and hiking trails that give the trip an outdoor dimension worth building into your plans.

Where to Eat and Stay in Grapevine

The dining scene on Main Street is solid and getting better. You have options ranging from Texas barbecue to upscale farm-to-table dining within a few blocks. The Nash Farm and Old Town area add more character to the experience. Hotel options in Grapevine range from boutique properties on or near Main Street to full-service resorts and there is a Gaylord Texan Resort right on the lake that is worth knowing about especially if you are planning a larger group trip or holiday stay. Room rates at Gaylord Texan typically start around $200 to $300 per night depending on season and events.

    Grapevine Events and Festivals

GrapeFest is one of the largest wine festivals in the Southwest and typically runs in September drawing tens of thousands of visitors to Main Street for four days of wine tasting live music and food. The Christmas season brings the Grapevine North Pole Express train rides and the entire city transforms into a holiday destination that is genuinely special. Check the Grapevine Texas official tourism site for the full 2026 events calendar before planning your visit so you can time your trip around something that makes it even more memorable.

If you have been meaning to check Grapevine off your list and keep putting it off, stop waiting. It is close enough that you can go for a day and rich enough in things to do that you will wish you stayed a night. For anyone exploring the quieter and more beautiful side of DFW Grapevine belongs in that same conversation.
